Job Title: Retired/Off Duty Police OfficerDepartment: Safety & SecurityReports to: Director of SafetyHours: Part-timePay: $50 an hour Job Summary:Performs a full range of police duties necessary to enforce the law. Investigates complaints, maintains order, aids individuals, and identifies criminal offenders. Identifies law enforcement problems, resolves conflicts, and provides other police services to the public as necessary. Decisions within areas of responsibility are made independently. Supervision received is general. Daily work plans are established with periodic review of progress. There is frequent interaction with the general public. Duties/Responsibilities:Ability to communicate in a clear, concise and logical manner, both orally and in writing Ability to communicate professionally and courteously with both internal and external customersAbility to read and understand written District, Federal and State procurement policies, forms, invoices, procedures, warning labels and safety instructionsAbility to operate calmly in stressful situationsKnowledge of law, court procedures and police procedures and processesRequired Skills/Abilities:Provide for public safety by maintaining order, responding to emergencies, protecting people and property, and promoting good community relationsEvaluate complaint and emergency-request information to determine response requirementsObserves, detects and apprehends violators of traffic and other lawsConducts investigations of incidents occurring on the shiftDetermines appropriate action to be taken at each incidentCompletes a written report of all activities during a shiftReviews necessary reports and documentation of incidentsProvides testimony concerning each incidentPatrols and monitors an assigned area; reports suspicious activities to local authoritiesMonitors surveillance cameras, inspects property, and monitors crowdsContacts law enforcement or fire department in case of an emergencyAfter business hours, checks doors, windows, and gates to ensure the property is secureInvestigates reports of suspicious activity on the propertyReasonably detains persons suspected of criminal activity until law enforcement arrivesEscorts discharged staff, trespassers, and other unwelcome parties off the premisesOther responsibilities as may be assigned by ManagementPhysical Responsibilities:Ability to patrol the property and access areas quicklyPhysically able to capture and detain individuals if necessaryProlonged periods sitting at a desk and monitoring surveillance equipmentMust be able to lift 50 pounds at a timeThe above job description is intended to represent only the key areas of responsibility; specific position assignments will vary depending on the business needs of the department.
